The music, people and stupid moments that make up the nightlife
...and to follow up on what Liz said re: my comment about Peter, Bjorn, and John, it just seems that in the past 6-8 months, I have not been to a club (techno and synthpop nights excluded) where I did not hear either the aforementioned Swedes' "Young Folks" or "Making Time" by The Creation. I don't know what it is, it just seems that these two songs are everywhere all of a sudden. It's not that they're bad songs (I do like them), it's just that they're overplayed.
I would like to call for a six-month moratorium on these songs being played by Los Angeles-area DJs.
That is all.

I was offered a last minute gig for last night, which I promptly accepted, even though I had set up a Rockit night at Underground for the same Friday. Thanks to some very odd miscommunications, the details of which are not for public consumption, said gig ended after one hour. I didn't even have the chance to play the new records that I picked up at Amoeba earlier that day. Given that the new stack included some choice 12" singles from Ed Banger and Gomma Records, that proved to be the personal bummer of the evening. Oh well.
With the rest of the evening at our disposal, we (Carlos, my brother John and I) headed over to Underground. Special thanks to Larry, Dia and Mark for letting The Rockit distribute its material all over the club.
We spent all of the night on the smoking patio with the usual suspects. Conversation ensued, following the subjects outlined below.
- How to get water from a leaf.
- The merits and drawbacks of various L.A. Kings logos over the years.
- Why Annie needs to see Some Kind of Monster and why Dave hasn't seen it even though he has had the DVD for a year.
- Who is the mystery person that yours truly secured for the next issue of The Rockit?
- Uffie: Liz and Paola are into it, Robert is undecided at the moment.
- Pop Levi: Totally awesome. Ivan is way into it.
- Peter, Bjorn and John "Young Folks": Annie mentioned it. Robert mentioned it. Liz hears it every time she turns on the radio in her car.
- The weekend: Everyone is partying hard but yours truly. She has deadlines to meet.

OMG!
No, seriously.
After playing phone tag for the past three days with someone who is a major personal hero of mine, I finally got the interview.
I can't say who it is, but I will say that he/she has had a profound impact on how I listen to music.
The story is for the next issue of
The Rockit. You don't want to miss it.

Carlos and I are DJing at this show. It's Valentine's Day and we're playing a special set of New Romantic (and maybe some New Romantic-inspired) songs. Come down.
